How to Clean Your Sauna

After sweeping or vacuuming for dust, dirt and hair. We wipe down our sauna walls and benches with a product called, Sauna Kleena made of biodegradable products, natural oils and other ingredients specifically designed for sauna wood cleaning. An important ingredient is tea tree oil which has many antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiseptic qualities. There is no bleach or ammonia in the product. Sauna Kleena also kills germs, viruses, mildew, and fungus on wood.

You can dilute it 5 to 1 or use directly from the bottle for stubborn stains or odors. Sauna Kleena will gently clean the wood without drying it out. This keeps your sauna looking new and avoids the splintering and cracking that can occur with other cleaning products. If the sauna wood has deep water and sweat stains, try sanding the wood with a fine 150-180 grit sand paper. The light sanding will usually remove some of the worst stains. Cleaning your sauna heater and rocks

Follow these steps when cleaning your sauna heater and rocks:

• Your sauna rocks need cleaning from time to time. Of course, wait until they are cool before soaking them in warm, soapy water. Use a mild brush to clean them off and then rinse them with clean in water. Make sure the rocks are completely dry before you place them back in the sauna heater appliance housing.
• While your rocks are soaking, clean out the heater trough of any foreign materials. If any of your rocks have broken, do not put them back in the appliance housing. The grit they leave behind can damage the stainless steel.

QUICK TIP: When making steam on your sauna rocks, it’s best to use distilled water OR especially best NOT to use hard water from a well. Hard water will discolor your sauna walls over time.

NOTE: Rocks should be packed loosely. If your sauna heater cuts out after repacking, the heater may not be getting adequate airflow allowing a safety limit sensor to go off. Try repacking the rocks more loosely, covering the tops of the elements with only one layer of rocks.
