Wiring for an electric sauna heater
If you’re renovating an existing room or it’s new construction …
Typically, your electrician will come once you’ve built the walls or removed drywall to open the walls and perform these steps:
- Review your electric service control panel
- Install a dedicated 30amp or 40amp circuit, sometimes more
- Run wire through bare studs to where the heater will be mounted or sit
- Do the same for the light / switch and if needed, the heater control panel
Sauna heaters with built-in controls, i.e. the controls for the heater are built into the heater body or shroud. Your carpenter or installer will install Sauna Foil Vapor Barrier and line and trim the existing walls of the sauna with cedar.
- Then, your electrician will return and connect the sauna heater, heater control panel, install light fixtures and switch
- Test the sauna heater! Surprisingly, some leave without actually turning it on
DO NOT LET YOUR ELECTRICIAN LEAVE WITHOUT TESTING THE SAUNA HEATER!!
If you’re assembling one of our Modular Sauna Kits …
Steps are similar, your electrician will …
- Review your electric service control panel
- Install a dedicated 30amp or 40amp circuit (sometimes more)
- Bring your power supply and conduit directly up the back wall of the sauna and make connections on top of the sauna ceiling. (Good electricians will strap down any outside conduit so it lays flat and is hidden from sight)
- Our Modular Sauna Kit has an option to run conduit through the wall. This makes connections a simple wire-pull to the light, switch and heater and sometimes our Cedar Control Rough-in Box and Conduit
- And of course … Test the sauna heater! Surprisingly, some leave without actually turning it on
